Four Workers from Odisha Killed, Four Injured in Telangana Factory Explosion

Bhubaneswar, 2 July (H.S.): Four workers from Odisha lost their lives in a tragic explosion at a pharmaceutical manufacturing unit in Telangana’s Sangareddy district, while four others from the state are undergoing treatment for injuries sustained during the incident.

The explosion occurred on Monday morning in the Microcrystalline Cellulose (MCC) drying unit of Sigachi Industries Limited, located in the Pashamylaram industrial area, approximately 50 kilometers from Hyderabad. The powerful blast triggered a major fire, resulting in at least 36 fatalities and injuring numerous others.

The deceased have been identified as Rajnala Jagan Mohan (55) of Ganjam, Lagnajeeth Duari (20) of Tigiria, Manoj Rout of Balasore, and Dolagobinda Sahu of Jajpur. All were on duty at the time of the explosion.

According to reports, over 100 workers — mostly migrant laborers from Odisha, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh — were present at the facility when the blast occurred. Eyewitnesses described the explosion as extremely intense, with some workers being thrown several meters by the impact.

Among the injured from Odisha, Sameer Padhi of Ganjam has been admitted to the ICU at Pranaam Hospital in Madinaguda with 35% burn injuries. Doctors have confirmed he is out of danger. Chandan Kumar Naik from Bhadrak and Neelambar Bhadra from Nabarangpur suffered minor injuries and are currently receiving treatment in the general ward. Both are reported to be in stable condition. Another worker, Chitrasen Batra, is undergoing treatment at Druva Hospital in Patancheru.

Authorities are continuing rescue and recovery efforts, while an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the explosion.
