Chennai, 2 July (H.S.): A bomb threat was received at the Coimbatore Collectorate office via a letter on Wednesday, triggering a massive security operation. The threat warned of a possible explosion, leading to swift action by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS). The Coimbatore Collectorate comprises two main buildings – the new building and the old building – housing critical government departments and public service offices.
Following the receipt of the threat letter, police launched a comprehensive search operation across the government complex. BDDS teams, assisted by sniffer dogs, began combing operations in and around the premises, including parking lots, corridors, and both buildings, to detect any potential explosive devices. All access points to the complex were put under strict surveillance, and security personnel were deployed in large numbers.
The search operation is being carried out thoroughly across all possible locations, with nothing suspicious found so far. Authorities are currently investigating the source of the threat letter and have not ruled out the possibility of it being a hoax. Given the sensitive nature of the location, the police are taking no chances and have temporarily restricted public access to the premises.
This is not the first time the Coimbatore Collectorate has received such threats. Similar anonymous warnings have been reported in the past, often leading to temporary lockdowns and emergency response measures. The incident comes amid heightened security concerns, and authorities are working to ensure the safety of citizens and staff.
