Chennai, 2 July (H.S.): The Indian government has given the green light to cab aggregators, allowing them to charge passengers up to two times the base fare during peak hours. This move is part of the Motor Vehicles Aggregator Guidelines 2025, which aim to provide greater flexibility to ride-hailing services while maintaining regulatory oversight. The new guidelines will enable cab aggregators to dynamically adjust fares based on demand, ensuring that passengers have access to rides even during peak hours.
The government's decision is expected to bring relief to passengers who often struggle to find cabs during peak hours. With the new guidelines, cab aggregators will be able to incentivize drivers to take on more trips during peak hours, thereby increasing the availability of cabs. The move is also expected to benefit drivers, who will be able to earn more during peak hours.
The new guidelines also recognize non-transport (private) motorcycles for use in passenger journeys via aggregator platforms, subject to approval by state governments. This provision aims to ease traffic congestion, reduce pollution, and enhance access to affordable last-mile connectivity and hyperlocal deliveries. Overall, the government's decision is expected to bring more flexibility and convenience to passengers, while also promoting the growth of the ride-hailing industry.
