Delhi, 17 July (H.S.): On Wednesday, a 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck offshore from Alaska, triggering a tsunami warning that was later rescinded. The quake occurred at 12:37 p.m. local time, approximately 54 miles south of Sand Point, at a depth of 12.5 miles. Initially, authorities issued a tsunami warning for South Alaska and the Alaska Peninsula, later downgrading it to an advisory before canceling it entirely about two hours post-quake, according to the National Tsunami Warning Center (NTWC).

The quake was followed by over a dozen aftershocks, the strongest measuring 5.2 in

magnitude. Only coastal of Alaska were affected, while broader regions remained safe. Minor sea level variations were noted at Sand Point. The NTWC warned residents not to return to hazard zones until notified by local emergency officials.
