Siliguri, 17 July (H.S.): A disturbing and inhumane scene unfolded at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital on Thursday morning, triggering widespread outrage and concern over hospital security. The body of a homeless man was found lying in a corridor near the Oncology Department, where stray dogs were seen feeding on it.

As soon as the incident came to light, hospital staff removed the body from the corridor. According to hospital superintendent Dr. Sanjay Mallick, the deceased was not a patient admitted to the hospital. He was a homeless man who had apparently taken shelter in the corridor. His body has been sent for post-mortem.

Hospital sources revealed that the homeless man had lain down to sleep in the corridor on Wednesday night, where he likely passed away. Early on Thursday morning, staff discovered that one of his legs had been partially devoured by dogs.

Hospital authorities have assured that appropriate steps will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future and to ensure the safety of both patients and visitors.
