Delhi, 17 July (H.S.): The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India, has taken suo motu cognizance of a report regarding a train collision with a school van in Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, on 8th July 2025, resulting in the deaths of three children and injuries to others. The level crossing gate was reportedly open at the time.

The NHRC expressed concern over potential human rights violations and issued notices to the Railway Board Chairman, Chief Secretary, and Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu, requesting a detailed report, including the health status of the injured, within two weeks.

According to the media report, carried on 9th July, 2025, an underpass has been sanctioned by the Southern Railway in place of this level crossing, but permission for it has not been given by the District Collector for the last one year.
