New Delhi, July 17 (H.S.): The External Affairs Ministry of India on Thursday responded to NATO Chief Rutte's warnings about possible secondary sanctions against India for maintaining trade relations with Russia.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized that addressing India's energy needs is a top priority and stated that India is guided by market availability and global circumstances. He expressed concerns over “double standards” in international relations, urging caution against inconsistent approaches to trade ties, particularly regarding Russia.

Rutte, speaking in Washington, suggested that India, China, and Brazil reconsider their economic ties with Moscow, warning of 100 percent secondary sanctions if Russia does not engage in peace talks. He echoed sentiments from U.S. President Donald Trump, who has threatened severe tariffs on

trading with Russia and has called for these countries to pressure Russia into serious negotiations.

Additionally, Trump announced further military aid to Ukraine, including air defense systems and ammunition, supported by European allies, while giving Russia a 50-day timeframe to participate in peace talks before facing potential sanctions.
