Kolkata, 17 July (H.S.) Senior BJP leader and former MP Dilip Ghosh has demanded a thorough verification of the voter list in West Bengal ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections. Speaking to the media on Thursday morning, Ghosh emphasized the need for a voter list filtering process in every state, especially in Bengal.
He claimed that more than 10% of names on Bengal’s voter list are fake, with several belonging to individuals who have illegally migrated from Bangladesh.
“These fake names must be removed; otherwise, free and fair elections won’t be possible,” Ghosh said.
He further suggested the implementation of a mobile-based voting system to ensure every genuine voter gets an equal opportunity to cast their vote and to guarantee a peaceful and transparent electoral process.
Referring to the voter list revision currently underway in Bihar, Ghosh said a similar initiative is urgently required in West Bengal.
Targeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the BJP leader said, “Mamata Banerjee only wants an opportunity to advance politically. Around 40 lakh Bengalis have left the state and are working as migrant laborers and hotel waiters in other parts of the country, but no one cares about their well-being.”
Raising serious concerns about law and order in the state, Ghosh alleged,
“Every day there is bloodshed in Bengal. Women are facing rape and even gang rape. Even top institutions seem indifferent. All they care about is elections and votes. Their only aim is to get votes from Bangladeshi infiltrators.”
