Washington, July 16(HS): The primary concern for President Donald Trump is to strengthen the Republican position in Congress, aiming for a gain of five seats in Texas. He believes such a goal is achievable through dedicated efforts. Currently, Republicans hold 25 of Texas's 38 congressional districts. Trump is concentrating on two competitive districts in South Texas, where Democrats have a stronghold.

In the past elections, he led by 7 points in Representative Henry Cuellar's district and 4 points in Vicente Gonzalez's district, with Cuellar and Gonzalez winning their seats by narrow margins. The strategy to attract Republican voters in these Democratic strongholds could intensify competition in existing Republican districts. Trump has urged Governor Greg Abbott to support these efforts.

Notably, the Republican Party has lost House seats in 13 of the last 15 midterm elections. Senator John Cornyn faces a primary challenge from Attorney General Ken Paxton. Kornacki highlights the shift of Hispanic voters toward Republicans, potentially benefiting Texas Republicans.

Meanwhile, Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom of California might run for president in 2028 and plans to counter Texas Republican strategies through redistricting, reflecting ongoing political tensions. Representative Suzan DelBene indicates that Republicans are seeking new strategies out of fear of losing their majority.
