Chennai, 16 July (H.S.): DMK minister V Senthilbalaji's brother, V Senthilkumar, has approached the Madras High Court seeking permission to travel to the United States. Senthilkumar, who is an accused in a cash-for-jobs scam case, is currently out on bail.
The case relates to alleged irregularities in the appointment of junior assistants in the transport department during the AIADMK regime. Senthilkumar has been asked to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the case.
The petition is likely to be heard soon, and Senthilkumar's counsel is expected to argue that the travel ban is restricting his client's fundamental right to freedom of movement. The ED may oppose the plea, citing the ongoing investigation and the possibility of Senthilkumar fleeing the country.
The Madras High Court will have to balance Senthilkumar's right to travel with the ED's investigation requirements. If permitted, Senthilkumar will be required to comply with certain conditions, such as surrendering his passport or appearing before the ED upon his return.
