New Delhi, July 16(HS): The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government regarding a petition challenging the anti-conversion law. Justice Vikram Nath's bench ordered the petition, filed by social activist Roop Rekha Verma, to be combined with other pending cases. The petition argues that the law harasses interfaith couples and requests a halt on its enforcement until the hearing. It contends the law infringes on citizens' freedoms and rights, particularly sections 2 and 3, which are deemed misleading. The law is criticized for being discriminatory and lacking safeguards against administrative misuse, potentially affecting innocent individuals.
