- Jalimukh dam has made flood control possible in large parts of Udalguri and Darang districts: Minister Hazarika

Udalguri (Assam), 16 July (HS). Assam Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika on Wednesday visited the stone dam project built by the Water Resources Department on the banks of the Nonoi River in Jalimukh area of Udalguri district. Earlier, when the water flowing from Bhutan in this area along the Indo-Bhutan border fell into the Kulshi river, severe floods used to occur in many areas of Udalguri and Darang districts.

To deal with this problem of floods, the department started the work of dam construction and channel cutting in Jalimukh two years ago at a cost of about ₹16.94 crore. Under the project, a strong dam was built with the help of stones and the water flowing from Bhutan was stopped from joining the Kulshi river. As a result, the problem of floods in this area has been permanently solved.

After the inspection, Minister Hazarika told reporters that the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has taken many concrete steps towards solving the flood problem through the Water Resources Department. He said that Jalimukh Dam is a great example of this. The minister also said that the state government will continue to work actively to make Assam free from floods and erosion in the future as well.
