Imphal, 15 July (HS): A 23-year-old insurgent affiliated with the banned Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) outfit was apprehended by security personnel from Laingoubi Maning Leikai in Bishnupur district.
Identified as Thongam Inaoba Meitei, also known by the alias Lalaba, the militant was picked up from his residence under the jurisdiction of Kumbi police station. He is reported to have undergone a month-long basic military training in a camp located in Myanmar, police said.
During the arrest, security forces recovered a Kechaoda keypad mobile phone containing an Airtel SIM card from his possession. The arrest is part of intensified efforts to dismantle insurgent networks operating in the region.
Another stepped-up security measures were visible across Manipur, with 243 essential supply-laden vehicles escorted safely along National Highway 37 by armed convoys navigating sensitive zones.
To tighten security and surveillance, a total of 111 checkpoints were installed across multiple districts, covering both valley and hill areas. Four individuals were taken into custody for questioning as part of these operations.
Officials confirmed that the ongoing crackdown exercises will persist to safeguard public order and suppress any insurgent threats in the state.
