Guwahati, 16 July (HS): Launching a blistering critique of the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led Assam government, Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi has alleged that the Chief Minister is operating more like a “real estate broker” than a public servant. According to Gogoi, vast tracts of land—amounting to nearly 17,000 acres—have been transferred to non-local industrialists without public consultation.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Gogoi claimed that the BJP regime is systematically targeting tribal communities and minorities through forced evictions and opaque land policies. “This administration thrives on fear and coercion,” he said, warning that the Congress party will not remain silent.

The APCC president also announced that senior party leaders including AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi's visit is intended to strengthen the party’s resolve and deliver a strong message of support to the people. “No one should live in fear. We are with you,” he assured.

He accused the government of serving industrial interests at the cost of the common people. “This government appears to be a real estate syndicate in disguise, stripping land away from the poor and handing it to outsiders,” Gogoi charged.

Reiterating the party’s position, Gogoi emphasized that the Congress will fight to uphold the dignity, land rights, and constitutional safeguards of the people of Assam. He condemned what he called the “corrupt and cruel” governance style of the ruling party and pledged that the Congress will be relentless in its pursuit of justice.
