Jalpaiguri, 16 July (H.S.): A shocking incident unfolded in the Gadadhar Colony area under Kharia Gram Panchayat in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, where the dead bodies of a husband and wife were recovered from a locked room. As per police sources, the deceased have been identified as Santosh Barman (55) and his wife Leena Barman (50).
According to preliminary police findings, it is suspected that the husband killed his wife and then he hanged himself.
Local sources revealed that Santosh Barman had suffered serious injuries after falling from a tree about six months ago. Since the accident, he had been unable to work and was depressed.
Family members and locals said that the couple frequently quarreled. On Tuesday night, they retired to their bedroom after supper.
However, on Wednesday morning, when neither of them emerged from the room for an unusually long time, their son grew suspicious. He knocked on the door and called out to them, but there was no response. Neighbors soon gathered at the scene.
After repeated calls went unanswered, the door was broken open. To everyone's horror, Leena Barman was found lying on the bed in a pool of blood, with injuries on her throat. Santosh Barman’s body was discovered hanging from the ceiling in the same room.
On information the police arrived at the scene, recovered both the bodies, and sent them for post-mortem.
The police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
