Guwahati, 16 July (HS): Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday visited Kokrajhar Medical College and Hospital and reviewed its functioning and health services in depth. During this, he inspected various important departments, interacted with doctors, nurses and medical students and chaired a high-level review meeting to remove serious deficiencies in health services.

In the meeting, the Chief Minister inquired about the status of major facilities like Out Patient Department (OPD), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Blood Bank, Orthopedic OPD, Central Clinical Lab, CT Scan Unit, MRD and Paying Cabin. He also evaluated the number of external and internal patients coming to the hospital and the quality of health services being provided to the district and surrounding areas.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister interacted with the doctors, nurses and students and understood their challenges and assured that the state government would take necessary steps to further strengthen the health services in the hospital. While reviewing the existing infrastructure of the hospital, he also took stock of the additional requirements so that critical patients can get better care.

The Chief Minister said that Kokrajhar Medical College and Hospital being the only government medical college in the BTR region, the government is mobilizing special resources to transform it into an excellent and leading health institution.

During the meeting, basic requirements such as availability of doctors, paramedical and support staff, hostel facilities for students and residential arrangements for health workers and teachers were also discussed. Dr. Sarma reiterated the state government's commitment to further strengthen health education and treatment facilities in the BTR region.

On this occasion, CM was accompanied by Handloom and Textiles Minister UG Brahma, Rajya Sabha MP Ranagouda Narzary, MLA Lawrence Islari, BTC Health and Family Welfare Executive Member Arup Kumar Dey, EM Sajal Singh, District Deputy Commissioner Masanda M. Partin and Kokrajhar Medical College Principal Dr. Atul Bodo and other officials. The Chief Minister said that his government will strengthen Kokrajhar Medical College in accordance with the objectives of its establishment.
