West Bengal STF Busts Inter-State Fake Document Racket, Two Key Accused Arrested

Kolkata, 15 July (H.S.) –

The Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police has dismantled a well-organized inter-state syndicate involved in forging official government documents. Acting on a tip-off, the STF conducted a raid in Birbhum district on Monday, leading to the arrest of two key operatives of the racket.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Sheikh Miraj Hussain (21) and Abdul Kuddus alias Munna (30). According to STF Superintendent of Police IPS Indrajit Basu, the duo had been engaged in producing fake identification documents and other forged government papers, which were being used for fraudulent activities across multiple states.

During the raid, the police seized a large quantity of counterfeit documents and digital equipment used in the forgery operations. The materials recovered suggest the gang had established a systematic method to create and distribute fake documents for illicit financial gains, SP Indrajit Basu stated in an official release issued on Tuesday afternoon.

A case has been registered at the STF Headquarters police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, Information Technology Act, Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, and the Foreigners Act. Both accused have been taken into police custody for further interrogation.

Police officials are now focused on identifying other members of the network and uncovering the full extent of the syndicate’s operations. Investigators are also trying to determine whether the forged documents were used in other criminal activities, including financial fraud and illegal immigration.

SP Basu further stated that the gang was not only operating within West Bengal but had also extended its reach to other states, indicating a broader criminal conspiracy.

The STF has intensified efforts to track down the remaining operatives and is expected to make more arrests in the coming days.
