Delhi, 15 July (H.S.): The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) emphasizes the necessity of completing the Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) for children aged seven or older who haven't updated their Aadhaar biometrics. This update can be done by parents or guardians at any Aadhaar Seva Kendra or designated Aadhaar center.
For children under five, Aadhaar enrollment requires only basic details like name, date of birth, and address, without capturing fingerprints or iris biometrics, as these are not fully developed. Upon reaching five years, a child's fingerprints, iris, and photo must be updated, known as the first MBU, which is free of charge if completed between ages five and seven. After seven, a fee of Rs. 100 applies, and failure to complete the MBU could result in deactivation of the Aadhaar number.
Updating biometrics is crucial for the accuracy of children's Aadhaar data and maintains their access to essential services, including school admissions and scholarship benefits. UIDAI is actively sending SMS notifications to parents regarding the MBU for their children to ensure timely updates.
