North 24 Parganas, 15 July (H.S.): At least two persons were killed and one other injured in a road accident that took place at Matia police station area of Basirhat in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on Tuesday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Bhaktipada Mondal (35) and Biswajit Das (30). According to police and local sources, the three men had set out on a motorcycle to buy groceries and were returning via the Taki Road after shopping. Near Nehalpur, a 10-wheeler truck allegedly collided head-on with their motorcycle.
Locals rushed to the spot and took the trio to Dhanyakuria Rural Hospital, where doctors declared Bhaktipada and Biswajit dead. The third rider, whose condition was critical, was referred to R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata for advanced treatment.
Following the incident, Matia police reached the spot and have initiated an investigation into the matter. The bodies of the deceased have been sent to the Basirhat Sub-Divisional Hospital morgue for post-mortem.
Initial police investigations suggest that the victims were not wearing helmets at the time of the accident.
