Srinagar, 15 July (H.S.): Senior Congress leader and the party’s Coordinator for Srinagar, Nizam Ud Din Bhat, today said that the restoration of Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir remains the party’s foremost agenda.
Speaking to reporters after a District Congress Committee meeting, Bhat said that under the party’s campaign “Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq,” Congress will mobilize public support and build pressure on the Centre to restore Statehood.
“This campaign, as per the directions of JKPCC president, will be taken to the block and booth levels. We will ensure widespread mobilization to compel the Centre to restore Statehood,” he said, adding that Congress has a crucial role to play in resolving the political issues facing J&K.
On the occasion, a meeting of senior leaders and workers was held, where participants raised slogans of “Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq,” reiterating the party’s demand for the restoration of Statehood.
The newly appointed Coordinator for Srinagar and former MLA, presided over the meeting and urged party leaders and workers in Srinagar to gear up for upcoming challenges, especially the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) and Panchayat elections.
Bhat stressed the importance of connecting with people at the grassroots level and urged party cadres to seek public support for the Congress party’s pro-people policies and programmes.
Apart from reviewing organizational activities, Congress Chief Whip and Srinagar Coordinator sought feedback on the current situation in various blocks and wards.
He told workers to prepare for the ULB and Panchayat elections, which, he said, could be announced anytime.
The meeting unanimously resolved to visit every block and ward under Bhat’s leadership to assess the prevailing political situation and the party’s strength.
This, it was noted, would help develop a comprehensive roadmap to face the upcoming elections and other challenges confronting the party.
Bhat and other coordinators also emphasized the importance of holding booth-, ward- and block-level meetings every week to reinvigorate party activities
