New Delhi, July 15 (HS): Rahul Gandhi, the opposition leader in Lok Sabha, criticized the Odisha BJP government following a tragic incident involving a B.Ed student in Balasore who self-immolated. He labeled the event a murder by the system, condemning the government’s inaction.

In a post on X, he highlighted that the student, who spoke out against sexual exploitation, faced threats and harassment instead of justice. He accused authorities of humiliating her and protecting the accused, leading to her desperate act.

Gandhi emphasized that this was not a suicide but an organized murder, noting that women across India, including in Odisha and Manipur, suffer while the government remains silent. He demanded accountability from the government, insisting the nation deserves answers. The student, hospitalized with severe burns, succumbed to her injuries after three days.
