Delhi, 15 July (H.S.): President Droupadi Murmu will present the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Awards at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on 17 July 2025, with Union Minister Manohar Lal and MoS Tokhan Sahu in attendance. This marks the 9th edition of the world's largest urban cleanliness survey, celebrating the cleanest cities under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U).
The awards will be given in four categories:
-Super Swachh League Cities
-Top 3 clean cities across five population categories
-Special Category awards for Ganga Towns, Cantonment Boards, SafaiMitra Suraksha, Mahakumbh
-State Level Awards for promising clean cities. A total of 78 awards will be handed out.
The Swachh Survekshan initiative has significantly influenced urban cleanliness in India, starting with 73 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in 2016 and now involving over 4,500 cities. The theme for this year's awards is Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, with more than 3,000 assessors evaluating urban cleanliness over 45 days, impacting 14 crore citizens through various engagement platforms.
The assessments comprised 10 key parameters and 54 indicators providing a comprehensive outlook on sanitation and waste management. The new Super Swachh League (SSL) encourages cities achieving top cleanliness standards, recognizing those ranked in the top three at least once in the past three years. For the first time, cities are classified into five population-based categories, enabling even smaller cities to compete fairly and be recognized for their achievements in cleanliness. This progressive approach motivates all urban areas to enhance their sanitation efforts.
