Srinagar, 15 July (H.S.): The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today trapped and arrested a Postal Assistant posted at Sub Post Office Bandipora for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 6,500.

As per an ACB official, the accused, identified as Mudasir Ahmad, was caught red-handed following a complaint filed by a resident of Bandipora.

According to him, the complainant alleged that he had availed financial assistance under the PMEGP scheme through Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) for setting up a Mobile and Electronic Equipment unit.

While the loan amount was already released by the concerned bank, the subsidy component was pending release, which required a physical inspection by the postal office in Bandipora.

He said the complainant alleged that Mudasir Ahmad demanded Rs 6,500 as a bribe for facilitating the release of the subsidy amount.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the ACB official said, the complainant approached the ACB with a written complaint.

After conducting a secret verification, ACB team found the allegations to be prima facie true and registered a case under FIR number 05/2025 at Police Station ACB Baramulla under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, he said.

During the course of investigation, the ACB official said, a trap arrested Mudasir Ahmad while accepting the bribe amount from the complainant.

The accused was accordingly taken into custody on-the-spot after completing necessary legal formalities, he said.

He said further investigation into the case is underway.
