Imphal, 15 July (HS): Manipur Police and security forces arrested six people while intensifying anti-insurgency operations across the state. This action was taken under strict action against illegal weapons and extortion.

A police spokesperson said on Tuesday that 34-year-old Ningthoujam Herojit was arrested from Singjamei Chingamkha area near Manipur College Road in Imphal West. A 7.65 mm pistol, three live cartridges and a silver Grand i20 car were seized from him.

On the same day, 48-year-old Kh. Ratan Singh, a resident of Naodakhong Makha Lekai in Bishnupur district, was also arrested. It is known that weapons and ammunition were recovered in a raid at his house on July 3. Police have detained him in connection with the investigation of the same case.

Two rebels of the banned outfit KCP (MFL) — Moirangthem Gandhi Singh (34) and Mutum Anand Meitei (37) — were arrested near Kasturi Bridge in Thangal Bazar, Imphal West. Both were involved in cases of extortion and intimidation of traders. Police recovered mobile phones, Aadhaar cards and ₹4,050 in cash from them.

On the same day, Koijam Samanda Meitei (29), a rebel from the RPF/PLA outfit, was arrested from Leirongthel Pitra, Nongpok Sekmai police station area of Thoubal district. He is accused of extorting money from common people and recruiting new cadres for the outfit. A mobile phone and Airtel SIM card were seized.

Besides, Thokchom Ibungo Singh, 32, a resident of Kumbi Setupur Mayai Leikai in Bishnupur district, who was earlier a member of Prepak (Pro) outfit, had now joined KCP (Apunba). He was detained from his house and a mobile phone and Aadhar card were recovered from him.

Police officials said that these continuous operations are being carried out towards maintaining law and order in the state and eliminating the influence of banned organizations. -----
