Kolkata, 15 July (H.S.) –

In a fresh development in the alleged rape case involving a student at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM-C), Kolkata Police has sought CCTV footage from the institute’s campus dated July 12 to verify inconsistencies in the survivor’s statement.

According to investigating officers, the woman’s account of the events and timeline spent inside the campus does not align with preliminary evidence. “We are trying to establish how long she stayed on the campus, and where exactly she went during that period,” an officer from Haridevpur police station said.

The police have specifically requested footage from July 11 as well, aiming to determine the time she entered the IIM-C premises, the locations she visited, and the time of her departure.

Investigators have also asked the institute for permission to question three other students who were in contact with the accused after the alleged incident. Authorities further revealed that the survivor has so far not consented to undergo a medico-legal examination and is currently unreachable. “She is incommunicado, but we are trying to get in touch with her,” the officer added.

Sources indicate that the woman reportedly spent around two-and-a-half hours on the IIM campus. However, the exact details of her movements during that time remain unclear, prompting further verification.

The alleged incident took place in the boys' hostel of the IIM-Calcutta campus on July 12. The accused was arrested the following day based on an FIR filed at Haridevpur police station.

Given the sensitivity and seriousness of the case, Kolkata Police has formed a nine-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by an Assistant Commissioner from the South West Division. The accused has been remanded to police custody until July 19.
