Chennai, 15 July (H.S.) : The BJP has announced its support for the ongoing protest by part-time teachers in Tamil Nadu, criticizing the ruling DMK government for neglecting their demands. The part-time teachers, who have been working for over 12 years with meager salaries, are demanding regularization of their jobs. BJP state president Nainar Nagendran stated that the party will join the agitation, condemning the government's inaction towards the teachers' grievances.
The DMK government is being accused of breaking its promise to make part-time teaching positions permanent, as stated in their election manifesto. Nagendran questioned the government's ethics, asking why they only remembered the teachers during election campaigns but ignored them once in power. The protest, which began several days ago, has seen around 5,000 part-time teachers participating, with the teachers meeting with the school education secretary, but no assurance was given regarding their demands.
The BJP legislative leader expressed concern that the government's apathy towards teachers' rights would adversely affect students in government schools. The party has warned the government to act swiftly to fulfill its promises to teachers, or face the consequences. The BJP's decision to join the protest is seen as a significant move, as it highlights the government's failure to address the concerns of a crucial section of the education sector.
