North 24 Parganas, 15 July (H.S.) Tension gripped the Panihati area of North 24 Parganas on Tuesday afternoon after private delivery company workers were allegedly assaulted with sharp weapons in an attempted murder incident. The violent attack took place in the Dhanakal More area of Ward 4, under the jurisdiction of the Panihati Municipality. An official complaint has been lodged, and Khardah police station has launched an investigation.
According to reports, several employees of a private delivery service had gone to the area as part of their regular duties. Due to continuous rain in recent days, waterlogging had already become a major issue in the locality. While the delivery workers were driving through the waterlogged street, splashing water accidentally hit employees of a nearby factory.
Allegedly enraged by this, the factory workers launched a violent attack on the delivery staff. Eyewitnesses and victims claimed that the attackers not only beat them mercilessly but also used sharp weapons, such as iron rods, hooks, and bamboo sticks, to inflict serious injuries.
One of the injured delivery workers said, “We went to the area for our usual delivery work. Some of the local workers started abusing us in filthy language. When we protested, they attacked us brutally with iron rods and sharp tools. We've filed a complaint with the police.”
The incident has left the delivery workforce of the private company in a state of fear. The police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area. So far, no arrests have been reported.
