Guwahati, 15 July (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has once again underscored his government’s unwavering stance against illegal infiltration, describing it as a serious threat to the state’s demographic balance and identity.

Through a recent social media update, Dr. Sarma raised alarm over what he described as an orchestrated effort to alter the demographic profile of various districts through systematic encroachment. He emphasized that such trends are being met with a determined and proactive government response.

As proof of action taken, the Chief Minister disclosed that more than 1.19 lakh bighas of state-owned land—equivalent to over 19 lakh acres—have been recovered from illegal encroachments. He hailed this as a significant step in the ongoing effort to safeguard Assam’s land, heritage, and population structure.

Calling it a “proud achievement,” Dr. Sarma stated, “We are No. 1 in the state as a result of standing firm to protect the interest of Assam.” He also praised the unity among citizens in supporting these measures.

This declaration comes at a time when debates around illegal immigration and land rights are intensifying in the political landscape. The Assam government continues to project its crackdown on infiltration and encroachment as central to its governance agenda..
