East Burdwan, 15 July (H.S.): Tension gripped Bhatar area in East Burdwan district on Tuesday after locals staged a massive protest at a petrol pump, alleging that water-mixed petrol being sold at the station.The police from Bhatar Police Station arrived at the scene to control the situation.
The petrol pump in question is located near Belenda village, along the Burdwan-Katwa State Highway.
On Tuesday morning, several motorcyclists filled petrol from the station and soon faced engine failures. Mechanics later confirmed that the petrol appeared to be adulterated with water, which caused the breakdowns.
Enraged by the incident, local residents gathered in large numbers and began protesting against the pump authorities.
Allegedly , this is not the first time such an incident has occurred at this petrol pump. They claimed there have been previous instances where the fuel quality was questioned,
However, the petrol pump is temporarily shut down. Locals have formally lodged a complaint with the police.
Bhatar police have begun an investigation into the matter and told that petrol samples have been collected for laboratory testing.
