Nagpur, 14 July
(HS): The Supreme Court assured ti dispose of the case relating to the party
symbol and flag of Shiv Sena, within three months. The dispute following Eknath
Shinde, along with about 50 Shiv Sena legislators, broke away from the party in
2022, and later claimed to be his faction the real Shiv Sena.
In the subsequent
elections of February 2023 Shinde Group was allowed to use the party symbol
(Bow and Arrow) and use the party’s name, Shiv Sena, by the Election Commission.
The decision was challenged by the Uddhav Thackeray-led alliance Maha-Vikas Aghadi
(MVA) government collapsed because of Shinde.
The Supreme
Court bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi on Monday indicated
that the issue will be sorted out within three months. The elections to the
local self-government bodies are expected to be held in November or December.
Uddhav Balasheb
Thackeray (UBT) faction’s counsel Kapil Sibal demanded early dates for the
next hearing. The case in expected to be entertained in August.
Thackeray has
claimed the party symbol and name of the party, as the party was formed by his
father, late Balasaheb Thackeray, and later he was nominated as the party’s supreme
leader.
