Mumbai,
13 July (HS): A viral video has stirred
uproar in Maharashtra, showing an auto-rickshaw driver purportedly being
assaulted by Shiv Sena (UBT) workers for making 'anti-Marathi' slurs. The incident illustrates the ongoing
animosity in the state over Marathi linguistic pride. There has been no formal complaint made yet,
but the police are investigating. A
video of Shiv Sena (UBT) supporters allegedly assaulting an auto-rickshaw
driver in Maharashtra's Palghar district has exacerbated the state's ongoing
linguistic debate. While the police
confirmed the video's spread, they claimed that no official grievances had been
filed, thus they declined to seek charges.
The incident highlights current tensions over linguistic pride in
Maharashtra, with local Shiv Sena (UBT) officials stating that they will not
allow insults to Marathi history.
