West Medinipur, 12 July (H.S.):
A shocking video has surfaced from Dantan in West Bengal’s West Medinipur district, showing two minor boys being tied up with ropes and beaten in broad daylight by a furious mob. The incident reportedly took place on Friday afternoon, and the video went viral on social media by evening. However, Hindusthan Samachar has not verified the authenticity of the video.
The incident occurred in Rasulpur village under Dantan Block II. As per reports, the two minors had gone to a local shop to buy matchsticks. When they found the shop closed, they allegedly attempted to break in and vandalize the shop. During the act, they were seen brandishing a gun in an effort to intimidate people nearby.
Local residents quickly overpowered the boys, tied them up with ropes, and thrashed them. The entire episode was captured on camera by a bystander, and the footage quickly went viral on social media within hours.
On information, Dantan police promptly arrived at the scene. They took the two minors into custody. Preliminary investigations revealed that the boys are residents of the Sabra area in Dantan.
According to police sources, the firearm seen in the boys’ possession was not real but an airgun, which they were allegedly using to instill fear. The police have launched a full investigation into the incident.
The incident has raised concerns over law and order in the state. Leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party criticized the state government, claiming that crime and lawlessness are on the rise in West Bengal.
On the other hand, the ruling Trinamool Congress termed the incident “unfortunate.” Local TMC leader Buddhadev Mondal said, “This kind of behavior is unacceptable under any circumstances. The boys have been handed over to the police, and the law will take its course.”
