Imphal, 11 July (HS): Security forces in Manipur intensified their counter-insurgency operations on July 9 and 10, arresting three rebels of banned outfits and recovering arms, ammunition, and incriminating materials.
In Bishnupur district’s Phougakchao-Ikhai Awang Leikai, a joint team apprehended Sarangthem Gobin Meitei (36), alias Maru, on July 10. Identified as an active member of the banned PREPAK (PRO), Meitei was found in possession of a mobile phone with an Airtel SIM card.
On the same day, another operation was conducted in Kakching district’s Umathel Bazar. There, Manipur Police arrested 44-year-old Mayanglambam Ranjit alias Premchand, affiliated with KYKL (SOREPA). He hails from Umathel Makha Leikai.
A day prior, on July 9, a third suspect was taken into custody from Mayang Imphal Thana Mamang Leikai in Imphal West. Identified as Maibam Basanta Meitei alias Boy (40) of Wabagai Thambal Chingya, he held the rank of self-styled Lance Corporal in KYKL (SOREPA). He is accused of being involved in extortion, abductions, forced recruitment, and issuing monetary demands across Thoubal, Kakching, and Imphal West districts. Among the items recovered from him were a 9mm pistol with a magazine, four live rounds, two mobile phones, various identity cards, and a SIM card.
