Nagpur, 11 July (HS):
In a landmark tribute to India’s war heroes, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation
(NMC), in partnership with an NGO, Nagpur 2025, and the Ministry of Defense
(MoD), will soon build a grand war memorial on Tekdi Road, Sitabuldi, Nagpur to
honour soldiers who fought in the 1962, 1965, 1971, and 1999 wars.
Spread over 29,000
square feet of land provided free of cost by the MoD, the Rs 10 crore project
will be fully funded by NMC. NGO Nagpur 2025 will serve as a consultant. Conceptualised by Architect Soumya Pandey, the plan was discussed with Municipal Commissioner Dr Abhijit Chaudhari and Major General S K Vidyarthi. The land was made available by Maj Gen Vidyarthi free of cost for the project.
Designed to inspire future generations, the memorial will avoid graphic war depictions.
With two MoUs soon to
be signed, one between NMC and MoD, and another with Nagpur 2025, the memorial
is expected to become a symbolic landmark of Nagpur, connecting generations to
the sacrifices of Indian soldiers.
Construction is
expected to begin once final approvals and designs are completed.
