Amravati, 11 July (HS): A passenger transport bus
caught fire at Panchwati Square in Amravati on Thursday night, sending shivers
among the passengers. Most of them broke the window panes and jumped out of the
bus, as they saw fire near the driver’s seat. The bus from Chhatrapati Samnajinagar
was heading towards Nagpur when the incident occurred around 9.30 pm.
Smoke started emanating from the engine of the bus
bearing the number plate MH 14, BT 3870. By the time the driver could act, fire
broke out near his seat. The bus was passing through Panchwati Square under a
flyover. The driver immediately stopped the bus on roadside. Before he could
act to defuse the fire, the passengers, 17 in number, broke open the
window panes and jumped out. Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt.
The driver extinguished the fire. Another bus was
summoned, and passengers were brought to Nagpur.
