Amravati, 11 July (HS): A passenger transport bus

caught fire at Panchwati Square in Amravati on Thursday night, sending shivers

among the passengers. Most of them broke the window panes and jumped out of the

bus, as they saw fire near the driver’s seat. The bus from Chhatrapati Samnajinagar

was heading towards Nagpur when the incident occurred around 9.30 pm.

Smoke started emanating from the engine of the bus

bearing the number plate MH 14, BT 3870. By the time the driver could act, fire

broke out near his seat. The bus was passing through Panchwati Square under a

flyover. The driver immediately stopped the bus on roadside. Before he could

act to defuse the fire, the passengers, 17 in number, broke open the

window panes and jumped out. Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt.

The driver extinguished the fire. Another bus was
