10 July (HS): On Thursday, the Uttar Pradesh administration announced a
comprehensive and coordinated approach to revitalize the state's rivers. Under this program, each river will be mapped
from its source to its final confluence, and all relevant districts will be in
charge of developing and implementing a collaborative action plan. The goal is
not just to restore natural river flow, but also to protect water quality,
availability, and biodiversity in a sustainable way, according to the
government.
According
to a statement, all departments and district administrations have been directed
by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to take immediate and coordinated action. The
strategy involves technical interventions such as de-silting, channelization,
and course correction to guarantee that water flows continuously, according to
the report.
It
would also build encroachment-free buffer zones and plant thick tree
plantations along riverbanks, according to the statement. According to the
statement, as part of this policy, all districts along a river's path from
source to confluence would share joint responsibility for its rejuvenation. Each
district will be obliged to develop a thorough plan aimed at cleaning its
section of river, restoring water flow, and conserving connected water
supplies, according to the statement. Pond renovations check dam building, and
the creation of water harvesting structures in catchment regions will all be
undertaken together. Connected pond chains will also be recognized and saved. The
government has said that the administrative entities of all relevant districts
will create a single response plan.
High-tech
treatments will be used to de-silt and adjust the river channel.It plans to undertake schemes for intensive
afforestation along riverbanks and water conservation in watershed regions. Infrastructure
such as check dams, recharge pits, and water storage tanks will be built.The preservation of traditional water bodies
and tree planting along riverbanks would be required, it stated.
According
to the government, this comprehensive river rehabilitation strategy would
complement significant projects such as the Jal Jeevan Mission and Namami
Gange, as well as promote rural development, agriculture, and animal husbandry.
The year-round flow of rivers will assist replenish groundwater levels and
promote environmental sustainability throughout the state, it said.
