Chennai, 10 July (H.S.): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has stepped in to address the escalating family feud between DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran and his brother Kalanithi Maran, chairman of Sun TV Network. The brothers are embroiled in a dispute over shares in the media conglomerate, with Dayanidhi accusing Kalanithi of fraudulent practices.
The conflict centers around a 2003 share allotment that Dayanidhi claims was unfairly advantageous to Kalanithi. According to Dayanidhi's legal notice, Kalanithi allotted himself 1.2 million equity shares in Sun TV Network without proper valuation or shareholder consent. This move allegedly diluted the family's stake and turned Kalanithi into the majority shareholder.
Dayanidhi has demanded the restoration of the original shareholding structure and the return of all unlawfully obtained financial benefits. He also plans to approach regulatory bodies, including the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), seeking cancellation of broadcasting licenses and ownership rights to the Sunrisers Hyderabad IPL team.
The dispute has sparked concerns about the potential impact on Sun TV's operations and the broader media landscape in Tamil Nadu. With MK Stalin urging the brothers to resolve their differences, the situation remains tense, and the outcome of this family feud remains uncertain.
