No Shortage of Petrol, Diesel in Odisha, Oil Tankers Arriving: Minister Krushna Patra

Bhubaneswar, 10 July (H.S.): Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra on Wednesday assured the public that there is no shortage of petrol and diesel in Odisha, despite growing concerns amid the ongoing strike by commercial vehicle drivers.

“There is no shortage of petrol and diesel. The situation is steadily improving,” said Minister Patra while addressing the media. “The government is actively considering the demands of the drivers, and efforts are underway to fulfill them. Oil tankers have started arriving across key locations in the state.”

According to the minister, 150 oil tankers have reached Bhubaneswar and 76 tankers have arrived in Cuttack, ensuring adequate stock at major distribution points. “The state has a sufficient fuel supply, and necessary steps are being taken to ensure timely distribution to all cities and towns,” he added.

The minister further stated that strict action will be taken against individuals involved in black marketing of fuel. Enforcement agencies have been instructed to monitor fuel stations and take necessary legal measures.

The strike by members of the Odisha Drivers’ Mahasangha, now in its third consecutive day, has disrupted the supply chain of petrol, diesel, and LPG across several districts. The 'Quit Steering' protest has led to the blockade of major fuel depots in Paradip, Balasore, Jatni, and Jharsuguda, impacting fuel transportation and causing long queues at fuel stations.

Many filling stations in urban and semi-urban areas have reported running dry, prompting urgent intervention from the state government.

Authorities have appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid panic buying as normalcy in fuel supply is expected to resume soon.
