Nashik, 10 July (HS): The water storage of Jaikwadi
Dam has gone up to 63 per cent, following continuous rains in the Gangapur Dam
region for the last 20 days and discharge of water from Godawari and Darna. The storage is expected to rise further in the
next couple of days. The satisfactory water storage in the Jaikwadi Dam and
adequate rainfall in the region will help in solving the water supply problems in the Nashik and Ahilyanagar regions.
Due to pre-monsoon showers in May and early arrival
of monsoon, 13 dams in Nashik district could have water storage up to 70
percent in July itself. The rainfall broke the record of the last 25 years, which
would benefit the Marathwada region, which gets water supply from the Jaikwadi project.
I the first fortnight of July, the dam storage is expected to be around 65 per
cent. According to the Mendhegiri Committee report, discharge of water from
this project is not required till the storage rises to 65 per cent. The Nashik
region will be relieved of the water crisis this year with the storage in Jaikwadi.
