Balrampur,

10 July (HS): The district administration here has dismantled almost 80% of

illegal construction on government property allegedly encroached upon by

Jalaluddin alias Chhangur Baba, the'mastermind' of a religious conversion

syndicate busted by the Uttar Pradesh ATS, according to an official on

Thursday. He informed reporters that eight bulldozers had been sent to clear

the encroachments, which covered around one acre.

The

event began on Tuesday and is still ongoing. On the first day, 20% of the unlawful buildings were dismantled.According to the senior official, 80 percent

of the unlawful structure was dismantled by Wednesday, and the process would

continue until the site is fully free of encroachment.

Vishal

Pandey, Additional Superintendent of Police, stated that a complaint was

received alleging that Chhangur Baba had taken government land in Madhyapur

village, and an investigation determined that the accusation was accurate. The

Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested Jalaluddin alias Chhangur

Baba and his companion Neetu alias Nasreen on Wednesday and detained them for a

week.

Four persons have been detained in connection with the case. While Chhangur Baba and Nasreen were held

last Saturday, two other co-accused, Naveen alias Jamaluddin and Jalaluddin's

son Mehboob, were detained in April. The group orchestrated efforts to convert

people from Hindu and other non-Muslim communities to Islam. Investigators claim that the scam targeted

impoverished laborers, widows, and vulnerable people, who were reportedly

pressured, deceived with cash incentives, or duped into marriage offers.
