Chennai, 10 July (H.S.): The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has invited bids for a feasibility study on implementing high-speed rail corridors in Tamil Nadu, with trains capable of reaching speeds of up to 160 kmph. This initiative aims to explore the potential of high-speed rail connectivity within the state, enhancing travel efficiency and reducing commute times between major cities.
The proposed project involves assessing the technical and financial viability of high-speed rail networks, identifying potential corridors, and estimating costs. The feasibility study will play a crucial role in determining the routes that could benefit from such a high-speed rail system.
The CMRL's move is seen as a significant step towards modernizing Tamil Nadu's rail infrastructure and aligning with global standards for rapid transit systems. If implemented, the high-speed rail project could transform the state's transportation landscape, providing a faster, more efficient, and environmentally friendly alternative for passengers.
The bidding process is open to reputed firms with expertise in transportation infrastructure development. The selected bidder will be tasked with conducting a comprehensive study, including technical assessments, financial modeling, and environmental impact evaluations. Upon completion of the study, the findings will inform future decision-making and planning for high-speed rail projects in Tamil Nadu.
