Guwahati, 10 July (HS): Assam Police on Thursday morning sent back eight illegal infiltrators to Bangladesh, including five Bangladeshi citizens and three Rohingyas. This action was taken from Cachar and Sribhumi districts, which are located close to the international border.

Police officials said that these people had entered the state without valid documents and were living illegally, which could pose a threat to the local population structure and security.

The Assam government reiterated that no compromise will be made to protect the territorial integrity and cultural identity of Assam. Officials said, Illegal infiltrators will neither be allowed to live in Assam nor will they be able to harm the unique identity of the state. It is worth mentioning that the state government has tightened border surveillance in recent months. Efforts have been intensified to identify and expel people living illegally.
