Mumbai, 10 July
(HS): The Maharashtra Special Public Security Bill, 2024, which was introduced
during the winter session of the State Legislature, 2024, was passed by a
majority voice vote. The law aims at curbing left-wing extremist organisations
in the state.
Chief Minister
Devendra Fadnavis introduced the bill in the Assembly, and said that the bill
is necessary to contain Maoism in the state. Earlier four districts in the
state were affected, now their activities have been restricted to only two
talukas.
The Communist
Party of India opposed the bill and it was put to vote. The bill was passed
through voice vote.
Fadnavis assured
the House that the law will not be misused against any individual or
organisation.
