Bhubaneswar, 7 June (H.S.): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for 11 coastal districts of Odisha, forecasting severe heat and sultry weather over the next three days. The affected districts include Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
As per IMD projections, the region will experience hot and humid conditions due to a rise in both temperature and atmospheric moisture levels. Daytime temperatures are expected to climb by 2–3°C in the next 48 hours. While no major change in the weather pattern is predicted beyond this period, the possibility of isolated thundershowers could bring temporary respite in some areas.
Authorities have urged residents to take necessary precautions to safeguard their health amid the extreme weather. People are advised to avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, particularly during peak hours between 12 PM and 4 PM, to minimize the risk of heatstroke and related illnesses.
Health experts recommend staying hydrated by drinking sufficient water and consuming water-rich fruits such as watermelon, cucumber, and oranges.
The government has also asked local authorities to stay alert and ensure preparedness to deal with any heat-related emergencies, especially in vulnerable areas.
