Murshidabad, 7 June (H.S.): Despite the work of solid waste management project being completed in Chanchal Super Specialty Hospital in Maldah by the Zilla Parishad at a cost of ₹16 lakh, the service has not been started yet even after six months. As a result, there is a foul smell from the garbage accumulated in the hospital premises. People have to cover their nose with a handkerchief to walk on the road. Although an inauguration plaque has been hung in front of the building under construction in the hospital premises, questions are being raised as to why the project has not been started. Hospital officials are throwing garbage in the open.
The patients visiting the dialysis ward and their relatives are facing the most problems in this regard. Deepa Das of Maltipur said, I am not able to eat anything after passing by the garbage. I have become ill.
According to hospital superintendent Sumit Talukdar, The solid waste project has not been handed over to us yet. Keeping in mind the long-standing problems of the hospital, the work of this waste management project was started on the initiative of Maldah Zilla Parishad. In this regard, Malda Zilla Parishad member Saira Bano said, The construction work of the project has been completed. Some equipment is to be installed. It will be started soon after discussing with the district administration.
