West Bengal, 7 June (H.S.): Soil has collapsed from under the old national highway adjacent to the Kulik forest in Raiganj. Locals fear a major accident due to the landslide. Locals said that the soil has collapsed on the side of the road due to rain for several days. There is anger among the drivers as the administration has not taken any action so far. Kumar Vikas Nag, engineer-in-charge of the National Highway Authority, said, Action will be taken after looking into the matter. Locals claimed that the condition of the road on the Kulik Bridge is already bad. Passenger buses and trucks loaded with various goods ply on that road. There is Kulik Bird Sanctuary next to it. Tourists come there to see migratory birds. Locals said that the road needs immediate repair. Tapas Das, a resident of the area, said, The soil on the side of the road is collapsing. The road can break at any time and the vehicle can overturn. The administration needs to take immediate action. Allegedly, since the opening of the new national highway in Raiganj, the National Highway Authority has not taken the initiative to repair the old national highway. Due to the tug of war between the State Public Works Department and the National Highway Authority, the process of road handover has not been completed yet. Due to which the condition of 12 km road from Barodwari to Rupahar is bad. Meanwhile, a landslide has also occurred on the road. Local Panchayat member Manu Mandal said, The condition of the road is very bad. The road can collapse anytime.
