Islamabad, June 7 (HS): Former Senator Abbas Afridi died today at CMH Kharian Burn Center. He was injured in a gas leak explosion that occurred in Azam Bagh, Kohat, on Friday. The police had admitted him to the burn center. According to a report by The Nation newspaper, the funeral prayer of the late Abbas Afridi will be offered in Babri Banda, Kohat.

Afridi was elected to the Pakistan Senate as an independent candidate in March 2009. He took oath as the Federal Minister for Textile Industry on March 19, 2014. In 2018, he contested the elections from NA-32 Kohat as a candidate of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) but lost. He received 44,154 votes and was defeated by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf candidate Shahryar Afridi. He also ran as the PML-N candidate from NA-35 Kohat in the 2024 general elections but lost again. The country's politicians have expressed their condolences on the demise of former Senator Abbas Afridi.
