Gangtok, June 7 (HS): The aerial rescue operation from Chhaten in North Sikkim concluded on Saturday morning with the final flight of MI-17 helicopters, transporting 76 soldiers to Pakyong Greenfield Airport. All tourists stranded in North Sikkim were successfully rescued by Friday, totaling nearly 2,000 individuals from disaster-affected areas.
On Saturday morning, two MI-17 helicopters departed from Pakyong, delivering 1,300 kg of necessary relief supplies for both the army and civilians, including Food and Civil Supplies Department officials. The state government is actively monitoring the situation and is dedicated to aiding those affected. Continuous rainfall has caused significant landslides, halting vehicle movement and stranding tourists, while also disrupting normal life. Aerial services resumed as the weather improved, ensuring the supply of essential materials for local residents and military personnel.
