Bhubaneswar, 6 June (H.S.): Hundreds of junior teachers from across Odisha staged a protest at Mahatma Gandhi Marg in Bhubaneswar on Thursday, demanding the immediate regularisation of their services. The demonstrators, representing various government schools, urged the state government to address their long-standing demand for job security and equal treatment.
Carrying placards and raising slogans, the teachers asserted that regularising their positions would not only secure their livelihoods but also contribute to improving the state’s education system by ensuring a stable and motivated teaching workforce.
“Many of us have been working for years without any certainty regarding our future,” said one of the agitating teachers. “We are dedicated to our profession, yet we continue to be deprived of basic job security and employment benefits.”
The protesters alleged that while the previous BJD government had abolished the contractual recruitment system in 2022 and regularised the services of many employees under former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s leadership, junior teachers were excluded from that policy reform.
“Despite the abolition of the contractual system, junior teachers were neither included in the regularisation process nor given job-related assurances,” claimed another protester.
