Day (ILCAD), General Manager North Central Railway Upendra Chandra Joshi, along
with Principal Chief Safety Officer and other heads of departments, flagged off
a mobile video van from North Central Railway Headquarters to spread safety
awareness about level crossings.
On
this occasion, General Manager Joshi said that through the mobile video van,
road users will be made aware about the importance and safety precautions of
level crossings. He said that everyone should be careful while crossing closed
railway gates as a small mistake can sometimes cause a major accident. In this
sequence, he also emphasized on the elimination of railway level crossings,
interlocking of gates, and construction of ROB/RUB.
During
the next 45 days, this mobile van will cover various important locations in all
the three divisions of North Central Railway to educate road users about safety
precautions related to level crossings. This mobile van equipped with TV and
audio visual system will cover schools, level crossings, villages, panchayats,

initiative to create awareness about safety at level crossings. This campaign
was started by the International Union of Railways (UIC) in 2009. UIC is an
international railway organization supported by railway organizations around
the world. Every year, about 50 countries participate in this event, in which
various types of level crossing safety efforts and arrangements are shared with
the aim of reducing accidents at level crossings across the world.
It
is worth to be mentioned that in order to enhance safety at level crossings,
various works like construction of Limited Height Subway, Road Under Bridge,
Road Over Bridge, Interlocking of Gates are being done over North Central
Railway. There are a total of 544 level crossings in North Central Railway.
Last year in 2024-25, 18 ROBs and 85 RUBs were constructed and 90 manned level
crossings were eliminated. In the current financial year, a target has been set
to construct 30 ROBs; 75 RUB/LHS and eliminate 65 level crossings. 06 more
level crossings have already been eliminated this year. Out of the total 544
level crossings of North Central Railway, 363 have been interlocked so far out
of which 41 level crossings were interlocked last year only. All the Principal
